Outrageous Boat: the Dragon Head

I'll talk about the project itself later, but for now I present the first part of the project — the dragon head mounted on the bow of the boat. An important aspect of the design was to make the top of the head predominantly black and the bottom predominantly white. This duality is a significant part of the overall project.

I got the top of the head from the "71782 Cole’s Earth Dragon EVO" set. I had to buy it in duplicate to make the black horns. The lantern housings on their ends I took from the "42180 Mars Crew Exploration Rover" set (but there are cheaper options). However, they used white glass, and I wanted yellow glass to match the color of the dragon's eyes. I managed to find them in the set "76430 Hogwarts™ Castle Owlery," just two of them.

The lower part of the head I took from the set "71809 Egalt the Master Dragon." I think it's a good solution to use two white sticks — they both strengthen the construction and serve as a stop for pulling upwards. Note also that the lower part of the head is not attached to the boat but to its base. This is done purposely, but why? It will be clear after the release of this project.

On both parts I had to try to design the main parts differently than in the original sets. This was important for me, because otherwise I would not be able to call the result a homemade creation.

Then came the question of joining them together. In the original sets, the top and bottom parts are connected by the part "6365692: PLATE, 1X3, W/ VERT. 3.2, NO. 1," but here it would be too bulky. Fortunately, I came across the "76946 Blue & Beta Velociraptor Capture" set with part "6311445: CHAIN 6 M!" And another one I already had from somewhere (can't remember exactly). And I had to make an upside-down sub-assembly to mount these parts on top of the head.
